Visit South Coast Smiles on any given day and you may just confuse Dr Kamal Ahmed for one of his patients. With a sense of humour that’s quirky enough to cause even the most serious patient to smile, Kamal makes orthodontic treatment fun at any age.
Kamal’s enthusiasm is matched only by his passion for all things orthodontic, not surprising given he always knew this is the direction he would take professionally. Quite simply, he is passionate about providing patients with the very best in specialist orthodontic care.
Kamal completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with honours at the University of Sydney. He later returned to complete a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics.
A commitment to remaining abreast of developments in technology and techniques is evident in the way Kamal has continued to advance his knowledge and skills. Through additional study he received a fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) as well as a Membership from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) in Orthodontics.
Kamal is a member of the European Orthodontic Society (EOS), and through additional study was admitted to the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in Orthodontics, considered to be among the highest qualifications in orthodontics internationally.
I was drawn to orthodontics because of the way it can help people create the smile they’ve always wanted. It’s a privilege to work with people doing what I enjoy.
There’s no question orthodontics is my passion, and while there might be challenging times on the treatment journey, I tell my patients: nobody is ever unhappy when their braces come off! It’s incredibly satisfying to see the difference a confident smile has on a person.
Prior to establishing South Coast Smiles with Arun, Kamal enjoyed a career as an orthodontist working throughout Sydney and the Illawarra.
His experience of working in collaboration with dentists and other dental specialists has provided fertile ground for developing his expertise in treating more complex and challenging cases.
His clinical work extends to being involved with one of Australia’s first multidisciplinary sleep apnoea teams. Through this collaboration of medical, dental professionals and allied health, collaborative approaches to the management of patients suffering with sleep apnoea and snoring have improved patient outcomes significantly.
